The design of HRD 4.0 was to combine as many features in one executable as possible, however it has become impossible to continue like this for a variety of reasons:
- Running out of development resources,
- The HRD executable becoming too big,
- Making a small change in one area causing problems elsewhere.
To be able to add all user requests in HRD 5.0 the only option was to take key compoents from HRD 4.0 and make them into standalone programs:
Other advantages of this approach are:
- Better support for multiple monitors,
- Central networked logbook - one logbook can be used by many instances of HRD and Digital Master at the same time.
